The programme
Argentina's citizenship by investment, explained
Everything announced so far, and everything that is still unknown, as of October 2026.
In short. Argentina grants citizenship to investors who contribute USD 350,000 to the National Treasury or invest USD 800,000 in a special government bond. Your spouse and children up to 25 can be included. You do not need to live in Argentina, and you can keep your current nationality under Argentine law. Applications are expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026.
What it costs
| Who applies | Treasury contribution |
|---|---|
| You alone | USD 350,000 |
| You and your spouse | USD 450,000 |
| You, your spouse and one child under 18 | USD 475,000 |
| You, your spouse and two children under 18 | USD 500,000 |
| You, your spouse and two children aged 18–25 | USD 650,000 |
Children aged 18–25 must be unmarried and without children of their own. The USD 350,000 contribution is not refundable. The terms of the USD 800,000 bond, including family amounts and repayment, have not been published. Government and due diligence fees are not yet known.
What you get
- Full Argentine citizenship, the same as any naturalised Argentine
- An Argentine passport: 169 destinations in the January 2026 Henley index, Schengen visa-free, UK with ETA
- The right to live and work in Argentina, and simplified residence across Mercosur
- Citizenship your future children born abroad can claim
What it does not give you
- Visa-free travel to the United States or Canada
- An immediate route to a US E-2 visa (three years' residence in Argentina required)
- EU citizenship (though Spain offers a faster route to Ibero-American nationals who live there for two years)
How the decision is made
Your file goes to Argentina's Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programmes (APCI). APCI asks the intelligence services, the Financial Information Unit and the security ministries for reports, then recommends a decision to the National Directorate of Migration, which decides within 30 business days. Your Argentine ID card and passport are then issued by RENAPER.
What is still unknown
- The exact opening date
- The official document list and fees
- Whether you pay before or after approval
- Whether you need to travel to Argentina for biometrics
- The bond's terms
The risks we will always tell you about
- The programme was created by emergency decree, and its validity has been challenged in court.
- The EU can suspend visa-free access for countries that sell citizenship; Argentina's strict vetting makes that less likely, but it is a policy risk.
- The contribution cannot be recovered.
